Colombia is the country with the most species of hummingbird in the world. Currently there are approximately 165 species registered. But we will go up to Cerro Monserrate where with some luck we will be able to spot a unique hummingbird, a cross between one of the chelillenya species and another chelillenya helianthea. It is a unique hummingbird, a hybrid with a coloration intermediate between those two species.

Additionally, we will be able to observe other wonderful species such as the paramuno hummingbird, the sword-bill and the comet-tailed hummingbird. Species that will imbue this tour with magic.

Monserrate Hill

Cerro de Monserrate is perhaps the most emblematic tourist site in the city of Bogotá. On weekends it is visited by hundreds of people who climb to the top for different reasons: for religious pilgrimage to the basilica, athletes who test their endurance by climbing the path or those who simply want to observe the city from a good vantage point.

Paramuno Trail

Located above 3100 meters above sea level, the top of Cerro de Monserrate has gardens and patches of high Andean forest, among which it is easy to observe several species of hummingbirds as well as other species of birds.

Binoculars are a basic element for practicing bird watching (We have some that we can lend, please write to us to separate them). The most suitable for this activity are: 7x35 - 8x42 - 10x42 Comfortable shoes and clothing for walking.

Waterproof jacket, poncho or plastic rain cape. Photographic camera. Sunscreen. Hat or cap. Bottle with water.

roadtrip:info.additionalInfo

Practical tips will be useful when observing birds. The color of your clothing should not be bright colors (such as orange or red), on the contrary it should be dark so that it can blend in with the environment.

Wake up early, the best times for bird watching are between 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. and the end of the afternoon, between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Binoculars and bird guide, although the basic equipment for observing birds is the eyes and ears, good binoculars and a pocket guide to birds of the region visited are required.

Walk slowly in silence and observe, bird watching is a task of patience and silence, in fact a bird can be identified by observation or by its song.
