We will visit a magical place full of peace, surrounded by lush nature. A city lost in the jungle in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a place that keeps the secrets of the Tairona, a civilization that inhabited the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta before the arrival of the Spanish.
We will take a trip back in time to discover part of the fascinating secrets that are still hidden in La Sierra, more than 21 terraces in an area of 40 hectares. Sample of the technology, architecture, agriculture and ancestral knowledge of said civilization.
The Congo is a conservation area surrounded by one of the most famous agroecosystems in Colombia: the coffee belt of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This site is an Important Bird Conservation Area (AICA) of the Río Frío valley.
Day 1
We will leave Santa Marta early. The road to get there is quite rustic, it is necessary to arrive by motorcycle or large 4x4 car. We will go up from sea level to 1,200 meters above sea level. Upon arriving at the farm we will stay in an Ecohotel with an incredible view of the canyon where the ancient indigenous culture of the Congo basin was located. After settling in at the Ecohotel, we will have breakfast and head out to the Ancient City of Congo, we will take a tour of the reserve to visit the 21 uncovered terraces and learn some of the secrets that these ruins keep. We will have lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the Cantarrana wells, here we can bathe and enjoy this unique natural space. We will return to the Ecohotel to rest.
Day 2
We will have breakfast. We will take a walk along trails surrounded by tranquility, nature, fresh air and beautiful landscapes. The trail can vary according to weather conditions. We can go down to the river or go up to a beautiful viewpoint. We will return to have lunch, rest for a while and prepare our suitcases to return to Santa Marta around 3:00 p.m.
Congo Ancient City
It is located on a ridge in the middle of the last native forests in the El Congo micro-basin (Frío River basin) on a Tairona archaeological settlement composed of fifty terraces connected by a network of stone paths that were restored in the mid-90s.
🥾Travel clothing: It is important to wear comfortable and fresh clothing, it can be quick-drying synthetic clothing. Tennis or closed shoes for hiking. You can also bring some additional sandals. Swimsuit. Hat or Cap.
It is recommended to bring a diver because it can get cold at night.
🤓 Special recommendations: It is very important to be well protected from the sun and constantly hydrated during the trip. Bring your camera and binoculars to facilitate the observation of fauna and flora.
