The "Casarriales" trail is located in the Andean forests of the area of influence of the Chingaza National Natural Park, through this route the natural and cultural values of the process of transformation of this area into a national natural park are observed. The process was long and many of the communities in these areas were displaced, leaving behind the lands where they carried out agriculture for years. We will explore the biodiversity in fauna and flora that this earthly paradise offers us, enjoying the paramo ecosystem and the activities in the Chingaza National Natural Park.

We will leave at 7:00 a.m. from Bogotá to meet our environmental interpreter who belongs to the communities surrounding the park and will accompany us throughout the tour of the Páramo and the Chingaza PNN. Before arriving at the park we will have an introductory talk and prepare for the walk.
The "Carriales" trail is located in the Andean forests of the area of influence of the Chingaza National Natural Park (PNN), it has 6 km that we will travel uphill from the reserve house to the Palacios Mine, a place where the stone is exploited. Limestone that during the beginning of the century allowed the production of cement for the construction of the Town of La Calera and Bogotá. We will see the process of transformation and passive restoration that this place has had for more than 60 years. We will also see the water sources that fall from the moors, its vegetation which is a combination of high Andean forest and paramo. With the help of our local interpreter it will be possible to observe samples of the native fauna and flora of these beautiful landscapes.
Chingaza National Natural Park
We will tour the lush mountains of this beautiful natural park. We will travel to the refuge in Monteredondo where we will begin the 4-hour walking adventure to have a unique contact with the paramo ecosystem.
Ecopalacios Reserve - Casarriales Trail
The Palacio Reserve is linked to the CORPOCHINGAZA Community Corporation “Water Cultivating Conservationist Families”, where several organizations that currently provide Ecotourism services within the Chingaza National Natural Park and in its area of influence are represented.

💦 This trail is in a paramo ecosystem, so there may be rain and humidity. Please don't forget to bring a change of clothes for after the tour. Do not wear jeans or cotton clothing, preferably wear quick-drying clothing.
🥾 We will take a walk through rocky and humid terrain. Wearing shoes that can get wet, boots or footwear with a good grip sole that protects the ankle is ideal. Avoid wearing converse-type sneakers or ballet shoes. Don't wear new shoes on these outings.
🧢 Wear a hat or cap, sunscreen.

🎒 Use an ergonomic two-strap backpack to carry on your back.

How do you know if this plan is for you?
This trail is difficulty level 3 (medium). This is a route with some physical challenges, if you exercise occasionally, this route is for you. We will walk a distance of 11 km for 5 hours; We will reach a maximum height of 4000 meters above sea level. We will enjoy a paramo ecosystem where the climate can be very variable with rainy and windy conditions, so it is necessary to bring clothing for the cold. It is recommended for people over 12 years old.
What will the food be like?

If you consider that animal protein is necessary in your diet, you can leave this observation in our comment box when making the reservation. We recommend having breakfast before or bringing it to consume before the tour, however, we will make a stop to stock up before the tour.
Your body may ask for more energy, so we suggest you bring snacks such as fruits, nuts, sandwiches or cereal bars. Don't forget to bring at least a liter of water to hydrate yourself along the way.
