Trekking de la Dama de Piedra from Medellín

We will leave from the starting point in the city of Medellin and begin this adventure full of beautiful landscapes and diversity of fauna and flora. 

On day one we will arrive in Sonsón at approximately 6:30 in the evening where we will have dinner and settle into the hotel.

The next day we will have breakfast very early to begin this amazing journey through a trekking that will last about 8 hours to reach the highest point of the mountain and see the spectacular view in the Paramo de Sonson, with a very varied vegetation and giving as finalized the tour around 5 pm.

Sonsón

Being the largest municipality in Eastern Antioquia, it has all the thermal floors and a moor, reaching its highest point at 3,350 meters above sea level.

Cerro de la Vieja

surprising for its beauty, size and height, 3150 meters above sea level. This hill was at one time and as recorded in historical records from the period 1790 - 1830 as the limit between Marinilla, Rionegro and the high valleys of Sonsón. The reports given to the Antioquians say that these periods describe the area as a jungle with a tutelary hill and abundant gold in its rivers and streams.

• Trekking boots with good grip and ankle protection.
• Quick-drying waterproof pants (Avoid jeans)
• Long sleeve quick-drying T-shirt
• Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
• 20 - 30 lts Assault Bag to carry belongings
• Buff to protect you from the sun
• Sun block
• Personal snacks
• Water bottle with a minimum capacity of 1.5 lts or CamelBack
• Change of clothes to return to Medellin.
• Personal documents and medications.
• Rubber boots (optional).
• Waterproof jacket.

The Páramo de Sonsón is one of the 6 páramos in Antioquia, it has several hills or mountains, this time we will be ascending to Cerro la Vieja. It is a demanding trek, the positive slope is 1,000 meters, and we will be above 3,000 meters above sea level. But nothing serious! Just be aware that you need to be in very good physical condition, know that there will be swamps, parts of ascent where you have to use your hands. Your biggest enemy is your head, prepare well for this trip, ideally you have previous experience on other hikes of more than 5 hours.

The hiking will last approximately 6 hours, we recommend having previous experience in this type of activities.

Therefore:

🎒 Use an ergonomic two-strap backpack to carry on your back.

💊 Bring your medications and personal documents (medical insurance card and ID).

🧢 Wear a hat or cap, sunscreen.

🥾 Use shoes that can get wet, boots or footwear with a good grip sole that protects the ankle is ideal. Avoid wearing converse-type sneakers or ballet shoes. Don't wear new shoes on these outings.

💦 We will be in a moor with chances of rain, please don't forget to bring a change of clothes for after the tour. Do not wear jeans or cotton clothing, preferably wear quick-drying clothing. You can bring a change of clothes that you can leave in the car.
