EcotourismDifficulty level Medio Bajo Departures from Bogotá, D.C. 2 days

We will travel to the heart of the Chingaza National Natural Park and keep up with the Andean bear and white-tailed deer. A privilege that very few people have had, entering this beautiful natural park through La Calera to walk along two of its trails and see its main lagoon La Laguna de Chingaza and if we are lucky we can sight the flagship animal of this paramo: the Andean Bear.

On this trip, visitors will take two beautiful walks where they will visit different lagoons and trails immersed in the beautiful and important paramo ecosystems present in the region. In addition, we will have the opportunity to sleep in a high mountain refuge and observe different species of flora and fauna such as deer, spectacled bears, frailejones, etc.

What you will do

We will depart very early in the morning from Bogotá to meet our environmental interpreter, who belongs to the communities surrounding the park and will accompany us throughout the entire journey in Chingaza National Natural Park. Before heading into the park, we will have an introductory talk to learn more about its size, wildlife, plant life, and the ecological importance of this Natural Park.

After registration, we will continue to the park, entering through the Piedras Gordas sector, where we will begin the hike to Buitrago Lagoon.

After the hike, we will have lunch at the park refuge, and the afternoon will be free to enjoy this wonderful park and organize our overnight stay.

On the second day, after breakfast, we will hike the trail to Chingaza Lagoon, the largest and most representative body of water in the park. We will begin with the Plants of the Path trail, which is characterized by its páramo ecosystem. Along part of the trail, it is possible to see the old paths once used by muleteers to transport their goods to the eastern plains.

After lunch, we will begin our return journey to Bogotá.

👕 Pack enough clothes for two days. Comfortable, waterproof and breathable clothing. The climate is temperate but quite variable with chances of rain. Use clothing that dries quickly, do not use cotton clothing. Remember the theory of 3 layers: 1. A dry layer, second skin; 2. A warm, warm layer; 3. A layer of protection, “waterproof shell.” Don't forget your change of clothes in case you get wet or muddy.
