The Upper Orinoco region was an essential part of the journey undertaken by the famous naturalist Alexander von Humboldt in the 19th century to investigate the biological diversity and extensive topography of the Orinoco River and its tributary, the Casiquiare. You can experience a fragment of this amazing journey by starting a tour on the Inírida - Guainía River where we will take a trip to the impressive Cerros de Mavecure, then we will descend until we take the Orinoco River to discover the impressive Tuparro National Park and reach Puerto Carreño-Vichada. This fascinating trip will take you through the rapids of Atures and Maipures, along the impressive landscapes of Vichada, to the point of confluence of the Orinoco, Guaviare and Atabapo rivers, known as the Fluvial Star of the Inírida. In addition, you will marvel at the majestic Cerros de Mavicure, the meadows where the characteristic Flor de Inírida arises, and you will have the opportunity to visit various native communities of Sikuanis and Puinaves.
Day 1
We land at the César Gaviria Airport and travel by boat to the sacred Cerros de Mavicure, home of the El Remanso indigenous community. Depending on the weather, we try to ascend Cerro Mavicure or, alternatively, enjoy other cultural activities, such as exploring the savannah to admire the Inírida flower or bathing in the Caño San Joaquín, known for its red wine color. We conclude the day at our base camp in El Remanso.
Day 2
After breakfast in El Remanso, we tour the Amazon savannah to appreciate the Inírida flower. We navigate the Inírida River in the afternoon, looking for dolphins in their natural habitat at the mouths of the Bocón and Matraca channels. We finished the day in Inírida, where we stayed in a local hotel and explored the town after dinner.
Day 3
From Inírida, we navigate the Inírida and Guaviare rivers towards the Estrella Fluvial to observe dolphins and bathe in the waters of the Atabapo River. We continue towards the Maipures rapids on the Orinoco River, with a stop at the Mataven channel. We passed through El Mantequero until we reached the Tuparro River, where we set up our base camp. In the afternoon, we visit the impressive Maipures rapids, recognized by Alexander von Humboldt as a wonder of the world. Dinner and rest at the camp.
Day 4
We begin the day with a visit to Cerro del Guahibo, part of the Guayanes Shield, after a three-hour walk to enjoy the panoramic views of El Tuparro park and the Orinoco River. During the ascent, we observed various species of birds and native vegetation. After descending and cooling off in the Orinoco River, we continued the afternoon with a journey along the ATTALEA trail in the primary forest of the Orinoco, spotting wildlife and concluding with a swim on the beach at sunset, framed by the rocks of the river mouth. Took.
Day 5
After having an early breakfast, we embark on a journey along the Orinoco River to Puerto Carreño. Along the way, we will observe the Atures rapids, the widest in the world and vital for subsistence fishing for local communities. We will take a short walk to photograph these rapids, followed by a stop at Cazuarito, a police checkpoint on the bank of the Orinoco in front of Puerto Ayacucho, in Venezuela. After a brief walk and lunch, we continue by boat to Puerto Carreño, where we will spend the night. The day concludes with dinner and rest.
Day 6
After breakfast, we head to the Bojonawi Nature Reserve, where we will explore the riparian forest trails and spot wildlife, with the possibility of seeing monkeys, otters, dolphins and birds such as the chenchenas. We will visit El Pañuelo lagoon, a spectacular site surrounded by huge rocks. Later, we will return to Puerto Carreño, visiting the mouths of the Bita and Meta rivers along the way. Our adventure ends at the Puerto Carreño dock, from where we will transfer to the Germán Olano airport to return to Bogotá.
Puerto Carreno
Capital of the department of Vichada, founded in 1922, at the confluence of the Orinoco and Meta rivers, formerly known as "El Picacho" and was named Puerto Carreño in honor of the government minister of the time Pedro María Carreño.
The Tuparro
This place can be described in terms of landscape as an extensive green savannah crossed by wonderful rivers with powerful rapids and golden beaches, small channels with crystalline waters, gallery forests, morichales and sandillales, where you can see beautiful and gigantic rocks in the shape of rounded hills. The presence of more than 320 species of birds is estimated. It is declared a biosphere reserve.
Tomo River
This is the tributary of the Orinoco River, where much of the biodiversity of this territory is perceived.
Bojonawi Reserve
A reserve known as the little giant where the biodiversity of the Orinoquia region flourishes, this civil society nature reserve is home to more than 1,400 species of flora and fauna.
Mavecure Hills
Cerro Mono, Cerro Pajarito and Mavicure are the places that give life to the legend of the Puinave indigenous people in which a beautiful princess became the flower of Inírida. Located in the Guiana massif, fifty kilometers from the capital of the Department, these immense hills rise to allow us to carry out recreational activities such as hiking, contemplation of fauna and flora, bird watching, camping and water sports in the river. , like canoeing.
