Cerro Las Palomas is, together with La Vieja, the most outstanding peaks of the Páramo de Sonsón. However, this first one is considered the highest with an elevation of 3,350 meters above sea level, and a place where there is an abundance of fauna and flora species unique in the world.
In this mountain the vegetation is dense and diverse represented by bromeliads, thistles and a unique species of frailejon (Espeletia restricta) that was discovered in 2016 and recently recognized in 2020 by the international scientific community: the Espeletia restricta.

During this two-day itinerary, we will explore the Sonsón region, departing from Medellín. On the first day, we will head to La Union, Antioquia, to enjoy breakfast before arriving in Sonson. From there, we will move to the Manzanares village for an acclimatization hike and lodging in a rural inn with dinner. On the second day, we will ascend Cerro La Vieja and return to the base for lunch and rest before heading back to Medellín. This itinerary promises adventure and exploration in the beautiful region of Sonsón.
